I have recently purchased a DoreWestbury milling machine but it didn't come with any collet chucks or a drawbar. I bought a 2MT collet chuck and length of 3/8" Whitt studding but I find that the studding is a little too big to go down the spindle.
Hi, When making a Dore Westbury MKII there was an option for the spindle to have a 3MT and no Myford thread on the spindle. Does anyone know what the diameter of through bore should be and what jaw bar diameter/thread was used for holding the chucks? Thanks. Ian. I have a dore westbury miller and a cowel rack tail stock atachment all of which have a 5/16 drawbar hole. one way round the problem is to make some adapters 3/8 bsw male taped 5/16 bsf (my draw bar is bsf) The adaptor can protude from the male morse taper about half an inch, the same distance as a morse taper tang without fouling.

Can anyone help please I have a Mk 2 Dore Westbury vertical milling machine. It wont drive the cutting head properly. OK on the fastest speed but just slips on the middle/lower setting. I am looking for a set of 'Dore Westbury' plans, MYSELF believe here was also one booklet. Xerox's would are fine. I have a Garvin #12 the I would similar to mount a vertical head to and can't find a small headache.
I built a DoreWestbury in about 1976 from the kit pre machined parts. I still have it although it is now dismantled. The head has bean mounted on a Tom Senior M1 milling machine and the base has been used to make a small surface grinder. I have modified the head to use polyvee belts with an inverter controlled motor.

Hello all, I've inherited this small milling machine from my father who was a model engineer. 177855 The model is called DoreWestbury Mk2 but there does not seem to be much info around on how to convert it into a CNC mill.
However, watchmaker's milling attachments that allow wheel and pinion cutting are not only prohibitively expensive but also difficult to find.
