The first irradiated uranium from the reactor was dissolved on December 19, 1943. Beginning in February 1944, the plant produced several grams of plutonium per month. DuPont built massive, scaledup versions of the X10 plant at Hanford's two chemical separation locations (200West and 200East) located almost ten miles south of the reactors.
