The Barley Crusher is a dual roller malt mill, and the gap can be adjusted by turning a knob on the unit. It comes in two hopper sizes (7 lb and 15 lb), and I ended up purchasing the 7 lb model. The mill itself is built like a tank with coldrolled steel rollers and machinedaluminum housing.
I just got my Barley Crusher grain mill. I'll be brewing partial mash BIAB with 57 lbs of grain. Previously my conversion efficiencies have been low with standard milling so I want to mill the grain finer. Should I double mill at standard roller setting or single mill at say or ? Which would be best?
Two major advantages you might not be realizing: 1) Cost, if buying in bulk the Mill pays for itself quickly. 2) Having base malts in bulk and a smattering of specialty malts lets you brew when the mood strikes (as opposed to waiting for a delivery). Oh yeah, buy a feeler gauge . . .

UPDATE I got my mill replaced by sending it back to Barley Crusher. They were slow to respond, but very helpful once I talked to them. I hooked the new mill up and I am having the same issues. I am pretty frustrated. The idle roller still will not turn properly. The only other thing I can think of is that it may be an alignment issue.

Go with the MM. You won't regret it. I bought the basic " 2roller mill with 1/2" shaft (to attach a pulley wheel). Damn thing's built like a tank and it chews through everything like the woodchipper in Fargo. And if you're considering the Barley Crusher, you might want to have a look at this thread.
Details: Rollers are adjustable at both ends to keep the gap spacing parallel giving a uniform crush along the entire length of the rollers. The gap default setting is marked and set at .039 at assembly. Adjustment range is from .015 to .070 thousands of an inch.

the barley crusher has a 5lb hopper on it that I'm guessing governs the rate at which barley actually reaches the mill. I've been using the same drill at the fastest speed of the lower setting. in other words the drill has 60 settings, 30 speeds per gear?. I usually put the 4 or 5 lbs in the hopper before turning on the mill.

Your problem is a very common issue with the Barley crusher mills. You can send the mill back to take the roller replaced and it should only cost you shipping and handling...

With my Barley Crusher, the factory width setting is indicated by a pair of corresponding marks on the roller adjustment shaft and the mill body itself. I like to tighten the gap to just a hair past the marks, maybe 1/16 of a turn.

First, loosen the two screws on the back of the mill with a phillips head screwdriver. It will only take about a quarter turn on these screws to free the rollers. After loosening the screws, just turn the knobs on either side of the mill to adjust each side of the roller gap. Put the feeler gauge into the gap as you adjust the knobs.
The mill only works when you turn it a specific direction, clockwise I believe. I've never used a grain mill myself in the past, so I did a 10# batch and realized it wasn't crushed at all. Had to mess around with it to figure out. Since there are no instructions that came with the unit, this was a little frustrating.
